Goodwin retains Lynnwood City Council seat after recount

LYNNWOOD — Benjamin Goodwin will remain on the Lynnwood City Council.

The Snohomish County elections office on Monday certified the results of a recount in the Lynnwood race.

Goodwin, the incumbent for Position 5, won with 2,749 votes. That was 21 more votes — less than half a percent difference — than his challenger, Chris Frizzell.

Because the tallies were so close, a recount was required. Monday’s certification concludes election season for the county.

Dec. 14 is scheduled as the last Lynnwood council meeting for 2015. The new folks will be sworn in at that meeting.

Incumbents Loren Simmonds, Sid Roberts and Van AuBuchon lost to challengers Shirley Sutton, George Hurst and Shannon Sessions.

Councilwoman Ruth Ross and Councilmen M. Christopher Boyer and Ian Cotton are up for election in 2017.

The new council will meet Jan. 4 and is expected to elect a new president and vice president on Jan. 11.
