TUKWILA— Sultan suffered a 59-56 loss to Foster in a non-league game on Monday night as the Turks fell to 0-3.
Sultan’s Tyler Morris scored 39 points and picked up six rebounds. The senior guard was 4-for-4 at the free-throw line and sunk five three-pointers in the contest.
It was the second time Morris scored 36 or more points this season and he also had a 37-point effort against Meridian in the playoffs last season.
“He was a first team all-leaguer last year and was already developing into a true player,” said Sultan head coach Nate Trichler. “He really spent a lot of time working on getting his pull-up jumper quicker, that high release of his is difficult to guard, and he’s a really good ball handler.”
Trichler said that although there isn’t a whole lot of scouring going on in non-league games, he fully expects to see opponents start to throw different defensive looks at Sultan in order to limit Tyler’s chances.
With that, it is Trichler’s hope that the attention Morris is sure to draw will open up more scoring opportunities for his entire team.
Until then, Trichler has a well-rounded scoring threat to lean on as Cascade Conference league play opens up for Sultan with a December 9th tilt at South Whidbey.
“He’s an all-out scoring option at this point.”
