SNOHOMISH — The Lynnwood girls basketball team continued to assert its dominance of the region on Tuesday with an emphatic 57-21 victory over Snohomish.
Mikayla Pivec led the Royals with 17 points, Jordyn Edwards added 12 and Kelsey Rogers chipped in 10 for 4-0 Lynnwood, which held the 0-3 Panthers to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.
“The last two years we’ve played them really tough and I thought we’d compete and give them a good game,” Snohomish coach Ken Roberts said. “They came out and jumped on us early. They’re very difficult to guard. I think they’re a better team this year than last year because everyone on the court can score.”
The Panthers’ Madison Pollock, who will play at San Diego next year, led Snohomish with seven points.
Teammate Madeline Smith, headed to Montana State, was held to just two.
“Pivec and Edwards are so good, but (Kaprice) Boston is much improved and Rogers is very tough inside,” Roberts said. “They bring others off the bench and they can all shoot.”
Snohomish, knowing it wasn’t quick enough to play the Royals man-to-man, tried zoning them to no avail.
“They made their threes early,” Roberts said. “On defense they do a great job in their press and make you take time coming up, and once you get there you don’t have enough time to get it inside, where we need to be.”
Snohomish must regroup after dropping its first three contests to Glacier Peak, Arlington and Lynnwood — combined 11-0 records.
“We were in those other two games. This one we weren’t in,” Roberts said. “Our kids will be fine. The focus is on getting better and it’s more about February than it is about December. We’ve always taken that approach when it comes to scheduling these game. I’d hope we’d play a lot better from here on out.”
