Snohomish County arts groups plan fundraisers

Several nonprofit theaters in Snohomish County are raising money to make improvements and keep programs going.

Edmonds Driftwood Players needs upgrades to the fly system (which holds up curtains, backdrops, sets) at the Wade James Theatre. The cost of the system upgrade will be more than $10,000.

Driftwood relies heavily on donations from individuals and businesses. Patrons who donate more than $100 receive benefits.

To donate, stop by the theater during a play production, call 425-774-9600, go to edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org or mail a check to P.O. Box 385, Edmonds, WA 98020.

Red Curtain Foundation in Marysville needs money to turn its new space into an arts center. Volunteers are needed now to help with the first phase of construction, which will establish a green room and scene shop.

Red Curtain plans to launch a major fund-raising effort in September to come up with the $125,000 expected to complete the center. Donors will be honored in the arts center’s lobby.

Because of the foundation’s forced move, the 2015-16 play season was suspended. The coming season is slated to include “The Fantasticks,” “Arsenic and Old Lace,” “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “You Can’t Take It With You” and “Noises Off.”

For more information, call 360-322-7402, go to www.redcurtainfoundation.org. or mail a donation to P.O. Box 1713, Marysville, WA 98270.

The Historic Everett Theatre has for more than 114 years brought in performers from around the world, making it the oldest active theater west of the Rocky Mountains. In 2015, nearly 15,000 people attended events at the theater.

Manager Curt Shriner and the theater’s non-profit 501C3 arm need help to continue the concert, dance and community theater events, the pipe organ and classic movie nights, free movies and other entertainment.

Shriner has put together a variety of membership packages. For information, call Shriner at 425-258-6766, email donate@historiceveretttheatre.com or go to www.historiceveretttheatre.org.
