Head out: Time for spring fair in Monroe

Celebrate Spring with a weekend at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Friday to Sunday.

Enjoy carnival rides and games, ride in the Evergreen Speedway’s race car simulator, watch youngsters catch a fish or visit the Farmer for a Day exhibit. Sip a float from the root beer garden, and browse a Homespun Spring Bazaar or a quilt show. Take in horse jumping and youth dairy competitions (Saturday only). There’s also regular auto racing, a swap meet and historic displays.

Fair admission is free, but the carnival charges for rides and games and the Speedway charges for race admission. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Carnival hours are 4-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to closing April 24. The bazaar runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.

Give: Mother’s Day balloons, with a cause

Nana’s Foundation, an Arlington nonprofit that provides toiletries to needy populations, will deliver Mother’s Day balloon-o-grams for a $20 donation. Each balloon-o-gram includes at least five mylar balloons, ribbons, a message card and balloon weight.

All deliveries will be made May 7 (or get “premium delivery” for an additional $10, with delivery actually on Mother’s Day). Deliveries must be within 15 miles of Marysville.

Proceeds will help the group purchase items from its toiletries list.
