Craig’s HR in 10th lifts AquaSox to 1-0 win over Dust Devils

PASCO — It took 10 innings, but the Everett AquaSox got their first victory of the season as they knocked off the Tri-City Dust Devils 1-0 before 3,757 fans at Gesa Stadium.
Everett’s Gus Craig snapped the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to cap a nine-pitch at-bat, and Joselito Cano struck out three as he earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief for the Frogs (1-1).
The teams combined for five double plays and three unsuccessful stolen base attempts to help keep the game scoreless. The AquaSox committed two errors and had just four hits in the game. Kristian Brito had two hits for Everett, but Craig’s produced the only run.
The AquaSox didn’t have a hit through the first four innings. In fact, their only baserunner came when Kyle Lewis was hit by a pitch in the first inning. Dust Devils starter Angel Mejia retired 10 straight following Lewis’s hit-by-pitch.
Brito collected the Frogs’ first hit leading off the fifth, but he was promptly erased when Eric Filia bounced into a double play. Then Nick Zamarelli singled with one out in the sixth only to but cut down at second as Jordan Cowan hit into a twin killing.
The Dust Devils put runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but the AquaSox got out of the jam with a double play. Everett also turned a double play in the ninth after Tri-City’s Kyle Overstreet led off with a walk.
The Dust Devils did not a commit an error and had six hits on the night. Tri-City stranded seven runners.
Everett’s Luiz Gohara struck out seven while scattering four hits before reaching his pitch count at 42/3 innings. He walked just one hitter.
Gohara was lifted for Michael Rivera, who went 31/3 innings of scoreless relief before turning the game over to Cano.
Aldemar Burgos had two hits for the Dust Devils (1-1). Mejia allowed just one hit while striking out three in five innings of work.
