LYNNWOOD — Eighteen people lost their homes early Wednesday morning after a pan of cooking oil ignited and sparked a fire that spread through an apartment complex in Lynnwood.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal estimates the damage to be upwards of $500,000.

The apartment complex at 17422 52nd Ave. W has a total of eight units, five of which sustained damage. Twelve adults and six children lost their homes.

The two-alarm fire was reported around 3:00 a.m. with Lynnwood Fire, Snohomish County fire districts 1 and 7 and Mukilteo Fire converging on the scene.

There were no injuries. The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Support Seven are assisting the displaced residents.
