1,500 in Lynnwood celebrate Night Out
The Lynnwood Police and Fire departments along with Mayor Nicola Smith, City Council members, and staff from the city’s Public Works, Community Development, Planning, Parks and Recreation departments, as well as the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency, all toured 30 registered National Night Out Against Crime events Aug. 2.
Dozens of city volunteers also contributed to the fun annual gatherings.
The 30 block parties were attended by a total of more than 1,500 people. The national event aims to get neighbors to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and go out to meet each other for fun community-building activities, all in the name of crime prevention.

Puppy Putt raises $10K
Machinists Union District Lodge 751’s annual Puppy Putt motorcycle event raised nearly $10,000 for Guide Dogs of America.
The event, held July 9, attracted close to 50 riders, who left from staging areas in Marysville and Lacey and rode to IAM 751’s Seattle Union Hall for an afternoon of food, music and motorcycle-themed fun.
Councilman Stevens honored for training
The Association of Washington Cities has recognized Marysville City Councilman Michael Stevens for successful completion of its Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership training program. Stevens completed more than 60 hours of training credits in the program aimed at helping local elected officials do their jobs better. Stevens was first elected to the City Council in November 2011.
