Juulsen, Tuulola, Hart and lots of Everett Silvertips happenings

We have a lot to get to that happened today and didn’t make into my feature on Mackenzie Dwyer, who is back after having ACL surgery in February.

– First off the Tips play their second of three straight against the Tri-City Americans Wednesday at Xfinity Arena. The Americans topped the U.S. Division-leading Silvertips 4-3 in overtime Sunday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

“(The Americans) play hard, they play physical,” Everett head coach Kevin Constantine said. “At home they’re tough. It’s a tough building to go into. We weren’t great in their building last year. We weren’t horrible but we weren’t great. So some of those patterns held true.”

It reminded Constantine of last season when the Tips played Portland five times in a nine-game stretch early in the season.

“We’re still in that 90 percent us, 10 percent them,” Constantine said, referring to the coaching staff’s area of concern. “But we play them three times in a row so you hope you can pick up a couple things about what they do and what they’re good at.”

– Noah Juulsen was back at practice after being returned from Montreal Canadiens training camp. Last season his participation was limited both with Everett and in Montreal due to a concussion. This season Juulsen was able to fully participate.

“Getting some games here before I left and heading there for the rookie tournament and getting games there and then getting into the NHL camp (helped me get) ready to go,” Juulsen said. “I was a little more confident. You go in there kind of knowing what happens, how it all works and the system.”

It’s extremely rare for defensemen to make the NHL at age 19 and Juulsen wasn’t expected to stick.

“Obviously you want to go there and show what you got and hopefully make the team,” said Juulsen, who was Montreal’s first-round selection in 2015. “But being 19 years old it’s a little harder and there are quite a few guys with one-way contracts and stuff like that. So you just go in and play your best every day.”

I would expect Juulsen to play Wednesday and rejoin defensive partner Lucas Skrumeda in the top pairing.

– It was announced Sunday that Everett goaltender Carter Hart had signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Tips put out the official release Tuesday.

– CHL import forward Eetu Tuulola suffered an injury to his left shoulder in Sunday’s game at Tri-City. He was at practice with his arm in a sling and expected to miss two-to-four weeks.

– The organization announced it had reassigned goaltender Lasse Petersen to Swan Valley of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. I’m not sure what this means in terms of his Silvertips future. He was acquired with the anticipation that Hart will miss several weeks playing for Team Canada at World Juniors. However, since Petersen has Danish-Canadian dual citizenship, it’s entirely plausible he will also be gone playing for Denmark during World Juniors.

– Rookie forwards Brett Kemp and Orrin Centazzo were each back at practice Tuesday. Kemp had been absent with a family concern, while Centazzo was dealing with visa issues. Evidently those visa issues have been resolved.

Finally, a half-dozen Silvertip prospects have been selected to participate in the Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup. All six were taken by Everett in this year’s bantam draft. Forwards Ethan Browne (first round) and Dylan Holloway (sixth round) will play for Alberta. Forwards Mark Liwiski (third round) and Reece Vitelli (fourth round), and goalie Danton Belluk will play for Manitoba. Defenseman Alex Moar (fifth round) will play for Saskatchewan.

All six players participated in Tips training camp. The event begins Oct. 19 at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.
