You had to figure it was just a matter of time.
On Monday Everett Silvertips goalie Carter Hart was named the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the first time this season.
Hart is the reigning WHL and CHL Goaltender of the Year and won the WHL’s weekly award three times last season, the CHL’s weekly award once and was named the CHL Goaltender of the Month last November.

Hart, an 18-year-old product of Sherwood Park, Alberta, went 1-1-1-0 this past week, notching a 1.68 goals-against average and .933 save percentage along the way. He made 27 saves in a 6-1 win against the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday, before posting 21 stops in a 2-1 overtime loss at Kamloops on Wednesday. Hart also recorded 22 saves in a 2-1 loss against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday.

Of note: that overtime loss at Kamloops was a duel between two of the top contenders to make Team Canada’s roster for the World Junior Championship next month. Blazers netminder Connor Ingram and Hart are arguably the top two goalies in the WHL and on the short list to make Team Canada’s roster.
In other news:
– The Prince George Cougars acquired defenseman Brennan Guhle Friday from the Prince Albert Raiders. Colleague Tim Pigulski over at mynorthwest.com says this demonstrates the Cougars are “all in” for this season.
– Over at Sportsnet there is this story looking at the top overage players in the CHL. Seattle’s Scott Eansor makes the list while Everett’s Dominic Zwerger does not.
– Buzzing the Net, a Yahoo blog about the CHL had a three-part series looking at how the game has changed. I’ve linked to Part I and the other two parts can be found in the links at the bottom.
– The Regina Pats are finalists to play host to the 2018 Memorial Cup. Regina is also a top contender for the 2017 Cup as the Pats are out to a 16-1-3-0 start and leading the Eastern Conference.
– The Silvertips elected not to skate today, instead spending time on a team bonding activity, so I don’t have any other news to report from Xfinity Arena.
