The Apple Cup, a trade, and the first episode of a new podcast

You may have noticed we’re doing a lot of Apple Cup coverage this week. Since Friday’s game is arguably the most significant Apple Cup since 1981, we asked some Silvertips about it:
One of the biggest takeaways from working on the story was the stark difference in how college athletics are followed here and how they are followed north of the border (and in Europe).
The real news of the day was that 1998-born forward Spencer Gerth was traded to the Victoria Royals for a conditional seventh round pick in the 2018 draft.

Gerth was perhaps the most engaging, personable player on the Silvertips roster, and that’s saying something because you can have an interesting conversation with any number of genial Everett players.
The Langley, B.C., native knew his role as a physical presence on the fourth line and wasn’t afraid to drop gloves when it was needed.
Oh, and he said this after scoring his first WHL goal this year:
