Man accused of assault after trying to steal motorcycle

LYNNWOOD — Police have arrested a man who is accused of hitting a motorcycle owner with a mallet while trying to steal his ride.

The victim heard noises outside his Lynnwood apartment about 5:30 a.m. Thursday. He confronted the suspect and they tussled. The victim was hit with the mallet and suffered broken facial bones, including his jaw. He pinned the suspect to the ground with help from others until police arrived.

The suspect, 26, of Arlington, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree assault, car theft and possessing methamphetamine. He also had a warrant for his arrest.

He reportedly had been riding a stolen motorcycle that morning before stopping at the Pinewood Square Apartments along 208th Street SW to steal a different bike.
