EVERETT — Jose Moreno will return for a third season as manager of the Everett AquaSox, the team announced Monday.
Everett’s coaching staff will also include bench coach Andy Bottin, hitting coach Austin Knight, pitching coach Danielin Acevedo and performance coach Michael Apodaca.
Moreno managed the AquaSox in 2008 and 2010, when the team posted a club-record 49 wins and won the Northwest League championship.
Moreno most recently spent four years as the Seattle Mariners’ Latin American field coordinator. Moreno managed the Pulaski Mariners of the Appalachian League in 2009 and led Rookie-Peoria to an Arizona League Championship with a 37-19 record in 2007.
“We are pleased that Jose Moreno will lead the club during the 2017 season. He has a wealth of experience with the Mariners and is a proven winner,” Everett general manager Danny Tetzlaff said in a press release. “I am sure he can build on his success here in 2010 when we won the league championship.”
Knight most recently served as the head coach at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and was previously a volunteer assistant at Texas A&M. Knight enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Dallas Baptist University before beginning his coaching career.
Acevedo begins his 10th season as a pitching coach in the Mariners organization, his first in Everett. Acevedo spent the 2016 season as the pitching coach for the Mariners in the Dominican Summer League.
He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent pitcher by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1999 and spent seven seasons in the minor leagues before finishing his career in 2006.
Bottin will begin his 23rd year as a coach in the Mariners system. He managed the AZL Mariners to the 2009 Arizona League Championship and was named the 2008 Mariners Player Development Staff Member of the Year.
Bottin began his coaching career in Everett in 1995 and remained on the staff through the 2001 season. Bottin played in the New York Yankees system from 1967-72, reaching the triple-A level.
Apodaca returns for his second season in the Northwest League.
The 2017 Northwest League season is scheduled to start June 15.
