2016 HERALD ALL-AREA FOOTBALL TEAMS

DEFENSE

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Ben Hines, Archbishop Murphy, LB, jr.

Hines racked up 100 tackles (11 for loss).

FIRST TEAM

Matt Sevao

Defensive lineman, Lake Stevens, sr.

Sevao tallied 98 tackles and 12 sacks.

Malakai Fifita

Defensive lineman, Glacier Peak, sr.

Fifita, who is verbally committed to play at Air Force, posted 35 tackles and one interception.

Windy Isaia

Defensive lineman, Mariner, sr.

Isaia was a first-team all-Wesco 4A pick.

Ali Gaye

Defensive lineman, Edmonds-Woodway, sr.

Gaye, a first-team all-Wesco 3A/2A South selection, is a highly-regarded college recruit, with offers from several Division-I programs.

Abraham Lucas

Defensive lineman, Archbishop Murphy, sr.

Lucas tallied 31 tackles (17 for loss) and 15 sacks.

Ben Hines

Linebacker, Archbishop Murphy, jr.

Hines racked up 100 tackles (11 for loss).

Markus Sullivan

Linebacker, Jackson, sr.

Sullivan, who has offers from several Division-I programs, tallied 119 tackles (16 for loss), two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Ricky Kranz

Linebacker, Glacier Peak, sr.

Kranz posted 71 tackles and two sacks.

D’Andre Bellamy

Linebacker, Oak Harbor, sr.

Bellamy racked up 96 tackles (14 for loss), four sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

Anthony Hutchinson

Defensive back, Lake Stevens, jr.

Hutchinson recorded one interception, one forced fumble and one sack.

Anfernee Gurley

Defensive back, Archbishop Murphy, sr.

Gurley tallied two interceptions.

Kyler Gordon

Defensive back, Archbishop Murphy, jr.

Gordon posted four interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

Collin Montez

Defensive back, Archbishop Murphy, sr.

Montez tallied four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and two fumble recovery scores.

Gabe Green

Punter, Arlington, jr.

Green averaged 39.8 yards per punt, with a long of 73 yards and six punts inside the opponent’s 10-yard line.

SECOND TEAM

Sam Zook

Defensive lineman, Oak Harbor, sr.

Zook tallied 54 tackles, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Jackson Yost

Defensive lineman, Archbishop Murphy, sr.

Yost, who has an offer in hand from Eastern Washington University, posted six sacks and 46 tackles.

Josh Jerome

Defensive lineman, Monroe, jr.

Jerome recorded 6.5 sacks, 41 tackles (17 for loss) and two forced fumbles.

Johnny Navarro

Linebacker, Jackson, jr.

Navarro posted 117 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.

Michael Wilkins

Linebacker, Lake Stevens, sr.

Wilkins recorded 67 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Josh Felder

Linebacker, Monroe, sr.

Felder tallied 93 tackles (14 for loss), one sack and two forced fumbles.

Jake Smotherman

Linebacker, Shorecrest, sr.

Smotherman recorded 102 tackles (13 for loss), three sacks and two forced fumbles.

Hunter Eckstrom

Defensive back, Lake Stevens, sr.

Eckstrom posted two interceptions and one forced fumble.

Skylar Barr

Defensive back, Monroe, soph.

Barr tallied two interceptions.

Tyrone Jones

Defensive back, Mariner, sr.

Jones was a first-team all-Wesco 4A selection.

Noah Becker

Defensive back, Edmonds-Woodway, jr.

Becker was a first-team all-Wesco 3A/2A South pick.

David Eisenkraft

Eisenkraft averaged 38 yards per punt, with nine punts inside the opponent’s 10-yard line.
