A check-in with Silvertips prospects at the Mac’s Tournament

With much of this week’s junior hockey attention on the World Junior Championships going on in Toronto and Montreal, we’d be remiss not to make note of the Mac’s Midget Tournament taking place in Calgary.

The Mac’s Tournament is the premier event for midget players and teams and an opportunity for recently drafted WHL players to display their abilities against other top competition.

Four Silvertips prospects are taking part in the event including forwards Ethan Browne and Dylan Holloway, and defensemen Kyle Walker and Alex Moar. Holloway, Moar and Browne also all competed at the U16 Challenge Cup in October.

– Browne, the 14th overall pick by Everett in the 2016 bantam draft, has two goals in three games at the tournament for the Sherwood Park (Alberta) Kings. Browne signed with the Tips shortly after he was drafted and should be a favorite to make the roster out of training camp next fall. The Sherwood Park native has six goals and 13 assists in 20 regular-season games for the Kings this season.

– Holloway, the Tips’ sixth-round pick in 2016, has a goal and an assist in four games at the tournament with the Calgary Flames AAA midget team. Holloway has nine goals and four assists in 19 regular-season game with the Flames. He has not signed and recently committed to the University of Wisconsin, so Everett general manager Garry Davidson has some hard recruiting to do if Holloway is ever to don an Everett sweater.

– Moar, Everett’s fifth-round pick in 2016, has one assist in four games at the tournament for the Prince Albert (Saskatchewan) Mintos. In 26 regular-season games Moar has a goal and 15 assists for the Mintos. Moar also has not signed with the Silvertips.

– Walker, a listed player, has an assist in four games with the Leduc (Alberta) Oil Kings. A 2000-born defenseman, Walker has two goals and eight assists in 23 regular-season games for the Oil Kings. He is a signed prospect.

– If you’re looking for additional prospect information, the Silvertips posted an article last week looking at the aforementioned four prospects as well as most of the rest of the Tips’ 2016 draft class. Rather than rehashing it I’ll just post it here.
