Mentors needed
Adult volunteers are needed to help lead middle and high school students volunteering Jan. 16 in public service projects. The events are part of the Day of Service on Martin Luther King Day, organized by United Way of Snohomish County, the YMCA Minority Achievers Program, Catholic Community Services Volunteer Chore Services and Retired Senior Volunteer Programs. A training session for volunteers is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Way building at 3120 McDougall Ave. in Everett. Family history talk: Stanwood librarian Rob Branigin will speak at the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society meeting, set for 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Stillaguamish Room at Haller Park, 154 Cox Ave., Arlington. Branigin will show how library patrons can use online resources to track down family facts. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Book sale: The Friends of the Arlington Library holds a book sale, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday at 135 N Washington Ave.
Buyers can be entered in a door-prize drawing for a “Pamper Yourself” basket. Donations of books, CDs and DVDs at the library front desk also are appreciated.
