Diversity Commission
The city of Edmonds is seeking applicants for its Diversity Commission. The group works on programs and activities associated with the changing demographics of the community and enhancing mutual respect. The nine-member volunteer commission serves as a community resource and provides recommendations to the mayor and City Council to address diversity issues. The new appointee will fill a three-year term that expires at the end of 2019. Apply online at www.edmondswa.gov/boards-commissions-committees-openings.html. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m Jan. 25.
Learn about police: The Marysville Police Department plans a Citizens Academy starting Feb. 2. The free program will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays for 12 weeks, through April 20.
Participants learn about law enforcement, including patrol, narcotics investigations and police dogs, and they go on a ride-along with a Marysville officer. Applicants must be 18 years old and pass a background check. They also must live, work or attend school within in the city limits. The applications are due by Friday.
