LAKE STEVENS — The Glacier Peak girls basketball team’s trio of NCAA Division I signees combined for 60 of the Grizzlies’ 68 points in a 68-55 victory over Lake Stevens on Saturday in a matchup of Wesco 4A’s first and second-place teams.

Kayla Watkins (Weber State) led all scorers with 24 points, Samantha Fatkin (Arizona) added 21 and Paisley Johnson (BYU) chipped in 15 to lift the Grizzlies (9-0 league, 14-1) overall.

“You can slow one or two of them down, but we always have a third, which is pretty nice,” Glacier Peak coach Brian Hill said. “They’re all in different positions, so they’re all over the court. Tonight it was great that they carried the load, but I hope we don’t have to lean on them all the time.”

The game swung midway through the second quarter, when Lake Stevens’ top scorer Kylee Griffen picked up her third foul and had to sit for the rest of the half.

Glacier Peak immediately went on a run that turned a seven-point game into a 16-point halftime lead, and the Vikings (7-2, 12-3) couldn’t get within single digits the rest of the way.

“It was really similar to the first time we played them,” Lake Stevens coach Randy Edens said, referring to Glacier Peak’s 80-60 win over Lake Stevens on Dec. 14. “We dug a big hole there.”

Freshman point guard Raigan Reed led the Vikings with 19 points, and Griffen added 13.
