Companies should pay larger share of state taxes

Published 1:30 am Sunday, March 26, 2017

Gov. Jay Inslee and the tax-and-spend legislators in Olympia are floating the idea of property tax increases to pay for schooling costs driven by the McCleary decision. Remember, Gov. Inslee negotiated with companies like Boeing, giving them generous tax breaks in exchange for keeping jobs here. Unfortunately, Washingtonians would have been better served by having a professional, with the wherewithal to do these deals. So rather then taxing everyone into oblivion why not take the following approach:

Tax large companies that will benefit from President Trump’s tax reform and reparation plan to help fund the schools. Smaller companies can share this windfall as well, but on a more modest tax rate. After all these companies benefit immensely from a well educated pool and should share the burden of costs.
