Boy, 16, critical after stabbing in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — A teenager was listed in critical condition at a Seattle hospital after a Monday night stabbing in Lynnwood but he is expected to recover.

An altercation involving several young people was reported around 8:45 p.m. near a bus stop on northbound Highway 99 near 216th Street, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was stabbed and the suspect fled before police arrived. He initially was believed to be a teenager but could be older, Lynnwood police Sgt. Sean Doty said.

By Tuesday afternoon, police believed the injured teen would make a full recovery. He suffered abdominal injuries, Doty said.

“A detective went to interview him today, but got very little information,” Doty said.

A police dog and King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter were used in the search, but officers were not able to locate the suspect.

Detectives interviewed a witness who was with the victim when the incident occurred.

“All we know is the victim was getting on the bus as the suspect(s) were getting off,” Doty said in an email. “This is when an altercation occurred, which resulted in our victim sustaining the stab wounds.”

It wasn’t clear if the teen knew who stabbed him, or what led to the assault, police said.

The stabbing victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
