District baseball/soccer roundup: Jackson tops Bruins on balk

MILL CREEK — Addison Beckmann scored on a balk in the eighth inning to lead Jackson past Cascade 4-3 in a 4A District 1 tournament game on Saturday. The Timberwolves (13-7) advance to face to Glacier Peak in the on Monday at 4 p.m.

Cascade’s season ends at 6-15 with the loss.

“We had some clutch base hits,” Jackson coach Kirk Nicholson said. “We hung in there and played the game the whole time and that’s what worked.”

Beckmann’s double in the eighth was Jackson’s only extra base hit of the game. He advanced to third base after Diego Altamirano grounded out.

Snohomish 3, Ferndale 2

SNOHOMISH — Brandon Jodock and Kyle Sandifer combined to make the Panthers’ three second-inning runs stand up in a 3A District 1 victory over the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

Jodock worked five innings of one-run ball before handing off to Sandifer to finish it.

Snohomish (15-6) will face Edmonds-Woodway in a winner-to state semifinal on Tuesday.

Edmonds-Woodway 8, Stanwood 6

EDMONDS — Nick Hull went 2-for-3 with two doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Warriors past Stanwood in a 3A District 1 game on Saturday.

Edmonds-Woodway (15-6) advances to play Snohomish in a winner-to-state semifinal on Tuesday.

Stanwood (7-15) will face Ferndale in a loser-out game on Tuesday.

Shorewood 2, Marysville Pilchuck 0

SHORELINE — Jake Fredrickson homered and drove in two runs to lead Shorewood past Marysville Pilchuck in a 3A District 1 tournament game on Saturday. The T-Birds (16-5) advance to face Arlington in the tournament on Tuesday.

Marysville Pilchuck (11-10) will play Lynnwood in a loser-out game on Tuesday.

Arlington 6, Lynnwood 2

ARLINGTON — First baseman Branden Perdue’s two-run single in the fifth inning gave the Eagles some breathing room in a 3A District 1 victory over the Royals on Saturday.

Tristan Sheward struck out six in five innings of work for Arlington (16-3) and worked out of trouble despite allowing seven hits.

The Eagles will battle Shorewood in a winner-to-state semifinal on Tuesday.

Jake Russell also drove in a run for Arlington, and Connor Combs had three hits for Lynnwood (12-9).

The Royals will face Marysville Pilchuck in a loser-out game on Tuesday.

Mount Vernon 2, Jackson 1 (OT)

MOUNT VERNON — Andres Macedo-Flores scored in overtime to lift the Bulldogs (11-6) past the Timberwolves (5-9-3) in a 4A District 1 loser-out game on Saturday.

Mount Vernon advances to play Glacier Peak on Tuesday night. Jackson’s season ends with the loss.

Lynnwood 3, Marysville Pilchuck 1

EDMONDS — Dane Evanger scored twice and Ryley Johnson netted once as the Royals (10-6) beat the Tomahawks and advanced to the 3A District 1 semifinals.

Lynnwood will play Squalicum on Tuesday while Marysville Pilchuck (6-9-2) will battle Edmonds-Woodway in an elimination game.

Squalicum 2, Edmonds-Woodway 0

BELLINGHAM — Ben Peterson and Ale Tomasi scored to lift Squalicum over Edmonds-Woodway in a 3A District 1 tournament game on Saturday.

The Warriors (7-8-2) will face Lynnwood Tuesday in an elimination game.

Snohomish 2, Arlington 0

SNOHOMISH — Logan Stapleton registered a goal and an assist as the Panthers scored once in each half to beat the Eagles and advance to Tuesday’s 3A District 1 semifinal.

Stapleton assisted on Nathan Nicholson’s goal in the eighth minute and scored off a feed from Felipe Cerna in the 66th for Snohomish (14-2), which advances to play Shorecrest in a winner-to-state game.

Arlington (6-11-1) will tangle with Shorewood in an elimination game on Tuesday.

SHORELINE — Noah Trostle redirected a cross from Adrian Ortega past the Thunderbirds goalkeeper just after halftime, and the Scots held on for a 3A District 1 quarterfinal victory that doubled as the latest installment in a historic rivalry.

“Anytime we play them there’s always going to be that component since it’s one of the best rivalries in the state, but my boys did a really good job of just playing,” Shorecrest coach Drew Thompson said. “They keep their heads.”

Thompson said Shorewood’s best chance to equalize came in the late going, when a long throw-in found a free header inside the box, but it went right into the arms of Scots keeper Ben Evans.

Shorewood (7-8-2) will now battle Arlington in a loser-out game on Tuesday, while Shorecrest (8-5-4) faces Snohomish in a winner-to-state semifinal.
