Jim Strickland was honored by Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring with the Volunteer of the Month award at the April 24 City Council meeting.

Strickland, a teacher at Marysville Pilchuck High School, has been teaching students with disabilities for the past 27 years. He volunteers for a wide variety of community causes, including the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the Marysville Diversity Advisory Committee.

“Jim has long advocated for — and continues to work toward — programs that would offer services such as life skills, job training and recreational opportunities to people with special needs into adulthood, after many ‘age out’ of the current system,” Nehring said. “Jim is a mentor and friend to countless current and former students.”
