Decision on consolidating stormwater programs postponed

EVERETT — The Snohomish County Council has postponed until at least next month a decision on whether to consolidate three county-run stormwater programs, potentially saving a half-million dollars a year.

Testimony at Wednesday’s hearing was dominated by opponents of the plan, who urged the council not to disband a volunteer advisory board that helps guide decisions about water quality in the Stillaguamish River watershed.

The council extended the hearing to 10:30 a.m. June 7. The location is the eighth floor of the county’s Robert Drewel building on 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

The proposal would restructure three separate stormwater utilities within the county’s Surface Water Management Division of Public Works. They correspond to the Stillaguamish River basin, the Snohomish River and south county.
