AquaSox open 5-game set with Hops with 5-4 walk-off loss

HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Hillsboro Hops came from behind in the late innings and ultimately prevailed 5-4 over the Everett AquaSox before 3,672 fans Thursday at Ron Tonkin Field.
The Hops (7-8) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth and received a walk-off RBI single with two outs from Tim Susnara that scored Yan Sanchez with the winning run.
Everett (7-8) victimized itself with five errors and just two of Hillsboro’s runs were earned.
The AquaSox scored twice in the top the seventh to turn a 2-1 lead into a three-run advantage. Greifer Andrade doubled in Johnny Adams, and Joe Venturino singled in Juan Camacho to make it 4-1.
But the Hops rallied in the bottom of the seventh thanks to two Everett errors to tie the game at 4-4.
The AquaSox never trailed until the game-winning hit. They took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Adams reached on an error to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by Brayan Hernandez.
AquaSox right fielder Austin Grebeck kept Hillsboro off the board when he robbed a home run from Daulton Varsho in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The AquaSox added another run in the top of the fifth. Camacho stroked a one-out double and scored on Grebeck’s RBI single.
Varsho exacted his revenge with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to cut Everett’s lead to 2-1.
Evan White secured his first professional hit when he legged out an infield single in the top of the first inning. The 2017 first-round pick of the Seattle Mariners, White has been battling quad tightness and has been progressing slowly.
Matt Clancy (0-1) took the loss for Everett. Junior Garcia (1-0) earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief for Hillsboro.
