REFLECTIONS: Tips never quite get over the hump in 5-4 loss

The Game

At least the Tips are scoring again. That’s one takeaway from Wednedsay’s 5-4 loss at Medicine Hat.

The Tips generated 34 shots to snap a streak of three straight games in which they tallied jsut a single goal. It wasn’t enough as they found themselves in a 2-0 lead just two minutes in and never were able to pull themselves even.

Kevin Davis returned from illness and defenseman Kyle Walker played a few shifts in his first game back since suffering a broken collarbone in training camp. Head coach Dennis Williams said Davis “wasn’t 100 percent,” but was well enough to play. “He’s a warrior,” Williams added, noting how loath Davis is to not be in the lineup.

Goalie Dorrin Luding finished with 28 saves on 31 shots after relieving Kyle Dumba two minutes in. It will be interesting to see if the Tips give Dumba another start this weekend.

The Turning Point

Tyler Preziuso scored with less than two seconds to go in the opening period and just a dozen seconds after Matt Fonteyne had cut the deficit to 2-1. Instead the Tigers took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Three Stars

1. Medicine Hat F Mark Rassell: The Tigers leading scorer had two goals.

2. Medicine Hat F Gary Haden: Haden had a pair of assists.

3. Everett F Matt Fonteyne: The co-captain had a goal and an assist.
