What do you think about the possibility of NHL in Seattle?

It was a week of big developments in the drive to bring an NHL team to Seattle.

On Wednesday the City of Seattle approved Tim Leiweke’s Oak View Group’s $660 million plan to renovate KeyArena for the purpose of luring NBA and NHL teams to the city. Then on Thursday NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the league has agreed to consider an expansion application from Seattle.

So the seeds are being sewn to transform Seattle into a hockey town.

But Everett, because of the presence of the WHL’s Everett Silvertips, is already a hockey town. I’m curious how the people in this community are reacting to the possibility of the NHL coming to Seattle. Are people excited about having more hockey available in the region? Are people concerned about the potential of the NHL crowding out junior hockey? Are people indifferent?

We’re a long way from this coming to fruition. This is no guarantee of NHL hockey in Seattle, and even the best-case scenario doesn’t have an NHL team playing in Seattle until the 2020-21 season.

I want to know what you think. You can share your thoughts by emailing me at npatterson@heraldnet.com, or in the comments section below. My plan is to share some of your thoughts in a column next weekend.

Thanks for your feedback!
