Washington State Ferries has confirmed that the Anacortes Ferry Terminal is closed for an undefined amount of time due to a vehicle that drove off the dock.

Seattle broadcast news station KOMO reported that a Jeep Cherokee drove through a barrier and into the water Thursday at approximately 9:45 a.m. According to KOMO, the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office sent a dive team for a rescue. Additionally, a dive team from border patrol is on its way and the U.S. Coast Guard is at the scene as well.

Ferry service between the islands and Anacortes has been suspended and is expected to remain so throughout the rest of the day, reported KOMO.

The Elwha ferry returned riders to Shaw and Orcas, the Yakima is being held at Friday Harbor until further notice and the Samish was rerouted to Lopez where it will remain until further notice. The interisland ferry, the Tillikum, will continue service.
