PEORIA, Ariz. — Starter Marco Gonzales tossed four scoreless innings and Robinson Cano hit his first home run of the spring, but it wasn’t enough as the Seattle Mariners fell 7-3 to the Oakland Athletics at Peoria Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Mariners tallied the first run of the game when Jean Segura led off the fourth inning with a double to left field and later scored on a wild pitch.
In seven games this spring, Segura is batting .313 with four runs scored, a double, two home runs, six RBI and three walks.
The Mariners added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a leadoff home run by Cano.
Cano, Daniel Vogelbach and Danny Muno each had two hits for the Mariners (5-7-1).
Left-hander Gonzales made his third start of the spring, allowing just two hits while walking two and striking out one. In three starts this spring, he has not allowed a run in nine innings pitched.
