SNOHOMISH — A family of five was displaced and two dogs were killed by a house fire Monday morning east of Snohomish.

A smoke alarm alerted a man around 1:30 a.m. to the fire on the back porch of the two-story log home, Fire District 4 Chief Ron Simmons said.

Firefighters arrived about 10 minutes later. By then flames had spread throughout the home. A cat escaped the house with the family of five. Two dogs couldn’t be saved, Simmons said.

Crews on 10 fire vehicles — engines, tenders, a command station — battled the flames for about an hour. The house was destroyed.

The local chapter of the Red Cross was helping the family find temporary housing.
