Community sports roundup: Mukilteo man subject of documentary

Bill Johnson’s Tibetan adventure is hitting the big screen in Everett.

The Mukilteo High School graduate, who’s spent the past three years teaching and coaching basketball in the remote Tibetan Plateau town of Ritoma, is now one of the subjects of a documentary film called “Ritoma,” which is being screened at the Historic Everett Theatre on June 17.

The documentary, directed by Academy Award winner Ruby Yang, chronicles the town’s former nomads, coached by Johnson, as they prepare to compete in a new regional tournament.

Flow Tour returning

The USA Flow Tour is returning for another event at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. The Flow Tour, which features competitors riding the indoor wave machine known as the FlowRider, is holding a pro/am event in Snohomish for the second straight year. The event takes place June 29-30.

Youth roller derby competitions in Marysville

The Marysville Derby Demons, a youth roller derby team, is hosting teams from around the region at its Hogwarts Derby Cup on Saturday at the Marysville Boys and Girls Clubs. Teams from as far away as Portland, Kennewick and Bremerton will be taking part in the Harry Potter-themed event, with bouts beginning at 5 p.m.
