MONROE — The seventh annual Summer Showdown, the premier Super Late Models race at Evergreen Speedway which was scheduled for Saturday night, was postponed because of rain.

The 200-lap main event, in which the winner claims $25,000, is now scheduled to begin at noon Sunday. Gates at Evergreen Speedway open to the public at 10 a.m.

The Street Stocks and Legends were able to get their races completed despite the drizzly conditions. However, the Super Late Models’ last-chance qualifier was scrapped earlier in the day, meaning all 41 cars were set for the main event, whereas the last-chance qualifier would have pared the field down to 38. The main event was called off at about 8:10 p.m.

Owen Riddle of Naches, who on Friday posted the fast time during qualifying and also won his qualifying heat, is set to start on the pole alongside Monroe’s Lex Johnson, an Evergreen regular who finished second last year. Auburn’s Tyler Tanner, another Evergreen regular who placed third last year, and defending champion Preston Peltier of Brighton, Colorado start on row two. Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, California, who was the Opening Night winner at Evergreen, and Chris Davidson of Pearland, Texas, who was third at last year’s Summer Showdown, comprise row three.
