Learn about native trees of the area

Washington State University forester and author Kevin Zobrist presents “Native Trees of the Puget Sound Area,” 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northwest Stream Center, located at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Reservations are required. Cost is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 non-members.

Scramble the streets of Everett

Street Scramble Everett returns at 10 a.m. Sunday. Cost is $5 to $30, depending on age, and free for children age 5 and younger. Part scavenger hunt. Part community exploration. Walk, run or roll.

Paint nature with author/artist

Author and artist Molly Hashimoto will teach fun techniques for painting iconic landscapes of the American West on Aug. 18 at two local libraries. The watercolor workshops are planned for 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Marysville Library (6120 Grove St.) and 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Arlington Library (135 N Washington Ave.). Registration is required.

Breakfast offered for veterans, military

A free “Hats Off for Boots On” appreciation breakfast for a limited number of local U.S. military veterans and active duty service members is planned for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at Refuge Church, 2609 Larch Way, Lynnwood, hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County. RSVP with your name and number of guests by Aug. 3.

Two-part boating class coming up in Everett

Everett Sail and Power Squadron offers a two-part “America’s Boating Course” on the fundamentals of safe boating, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 and Aug. 25. Topics include boating rules of the road, required safety equipment, radio communications and navigating local waters. Students qualify for the Washington State Boater Education card. Classes will be held at the Everett Yacht Club. Cost is $60 and lunch is on your own.

Learn fly fishing

Olympic Fly Fishers offers a beginners fly fishing class, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center, 23000 Lakeview Drive. A $10 donation is requested.

Learn about equipment and knots, entomology and fly selection, and fly casting. All ages are welcome, but young children need adult supervision. Bring your own fly rod and reel. A few rods will be available for borrowing.

No sign up is required.
