Prep hot tickets: Sept. 25-Sept. 29

Published 1:30 am Monday, September 24, 2018

Four non-football prep events to keep an eye on this week:

Girls swimming: Kamiak at Shorecrest, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shoreline Pool. Kamiak has won 22 of its past 23 dual meets, with the only loss during that stretch being an eight-point defeat to Class 3A state power Bainbridge earlier this season. One of the Knights’ primary challengers for a second consecutive outright Wesco South title figures to be Shorecrest, which is off to a 3-1 start with a narrow loss to perennial league power Jackson.

Girls soccer: Shorecrest at Stanwood, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Shorecrest (5-0-2 overall, 4-0-1 Wesco 3A) is unbeaten through seven matches and sitting in third place in the conference standings with 13 points. Stanwood is right behind the Scots with 12 points, locked in a three-way tie for fourth place in a crowded Wesco 3A race.

Boys tennis: Shorewood at Edmonds-Woodway, 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Two of the area’s top teams square off in a match that likely will decide the Wesco 3A South title. Edmonds-Woodway is unbeaten, having outscored opponents by a combined 51-5 margin. Shorewood’s only loss was a 4-3 defeat to Class 4A Jackson, which has won 42 consecutive contests.

Cross County: Twilight Invitational, 5:25 p.m. Saturday at Cedarcrest Golf Course (Marysville). Nearly 80 teams are set to compete in the 12th annual Twilight Invitational, including numerous local schools, teams from across the state and visiting squads from Oregon, Idaho, California and British Columbia. The meet includes four varsity races: Class 1B-2A boys, 3A-4A boys, 1B-2A girls and 3A-4A girls.
