About the Vikings: After prevailing in a back-and-forth shootout last week against Curtis, Lake Stevens is in the state quarterfinals for the third time in four years. The Vikings’ powerful offensive line paves the way for a rushing attack that averages more than 250 yards per game, and quarterback Tre Long leads an efficient aerial attack with 27 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. Lake Stevens is seeking its third state semifinal berth in eight years.
Graham-Kapowsin: 10-1 overall, 7-1 South Puget Sound League 4A; beat Monroe 59-20 in Week 10 playoffs, beat Mead 45-38 in state first round
About the Eagles: G-K held on last week to beat Mead and advance to the state quarterfinals for the fourth time in five years. The Eagles are led by University of Washington-bound Dylan Morris, the eighth-ranked senior quarterback in the nation according to 247Sports.com. G-K is seeking its second trip to the state semifinals.
Familiar foes: This is the third state-playoff matchup in four years between the two teams.
2015 state quarterfinal: Lake Stevens advanced to the Tacoma Dome with a 49-14 quarterfinal rout of G-K. Jacob Eason threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns, and Andrew Grimes ran for 280 yards and three scores for the Vikings.
2017 state first round: G-K handed Lake Stevens a 38-31 season-ending loss. The Vikings amassed 563 yards of total offense, but were undone by four turnovers.
