New Year’s Eve parties
A New Year’s Eve Dance with Camano Junction is set for 8 p.m. to midnight Monday at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Cost is $25; $15 for students. A free dance class begins a half-hour before the event. Snacks and a champagne or nonalcoholic toast are part of admission.

The Snohomish Senior Center holds a 21-and-over New Year’s Eve Celebration, 6:30 to 10 p.m. Monday. The senior center is at 506 Fourth St. Live music with Jim Toivonen, and champagne toast at the New York New Year’s time of 9 p.m. Beer, wine and cocktails available for purchase. Admission is $20.

Meet Monroe School Board
The Monroe School District School Board plans a coffee-and-chatting meet-and-greet event at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at Monroe High School, 17001 Tester Road. It is meant to be an informal opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback. Similar events also are scheduled with Superintendent Fredrika Smith.
Meanwhile, winter break ends, classes resume and offices reopen Jan. 7. And don’t forget that senior yearbook photos are due Jan. 8.
Also, school offices will be closed again on Jan. 21, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

HEADS UP
Holiday bus service
Community Transit will operate limited commuter bus service Monday for New Year’s Eve. Local buses will operate on the regular schedule. But commuter service to downtown Seattle and University District will only operate on Routes 402, 413, 421 and 855. Sound Transit Express service will operate on regular schedules.
In addition, Community Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule for New Year’s Day on Tuesday. There will be no commuter service; however, Sound Transit Express Route 512 will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Everett Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule New Year’s Day.

Outer space
The Western Aerospace Scholars program is now accepting applications for a free online distance learning course, a two-part program for high school sophomores and juniors. The class was developed in partnership with NASA and the University of Washington and focuses on the history of NASA and the space environment around the Earth, including opportunities for human space exploration.
If students complete the online course, they will be invited to participate in a three-day summer experience. Middle and high school teachers who currently teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics-focused subjects are encouraged to participate and are eligible for $850 stipends for both phases.
