Local Methodist churches adopted a worldly, unbiblical view

Published 1:30 am Friday, March 22, 2019

The article about the dissonance in local United Methodist congregations and the disagreements with their national leadership supported by the the regional Bishop of the Greater Northwest is disheartening (“’Nothing changes here;’ local Methodists vie for LGBTQ rights,” The Herald, March 14).

Not only is there a great sadness when the press airs the dirty laundry of the church, but also when the press is ill prepared to inform the larger audience with facts and sound research. After all, the United Methodists aren’t the only Methodist bodies in the world today.

I encourage the public to go to the website, www.UMC.org, for a clear statement of what the denomination is supposed to believe and how they are supposed to live. The local congregations in disagreement with their leadership are faced with a decision; that of adhering to the Wesleyan Biblical world view, or follow an other worldly redefined and reinterpreted power.

No one appears to have contacted the national United Methodist headquarters for its view and presented the position of the leadership in contrast to the protesting congregations, some of which no doubt have adopted a worldly view of how to reinterpret scripture to accommodate their behavior. Many are being called, but, not all, by their own choice will be saved.

This article does a great disservice to the Christian faith.
