EVERETT — The Everett Community College baseball team clinched the Northwest Athletic Conference’s North Region championship Sunday with a 3-2 victory over Edmonds at Funko Field at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The contest was the first game of a doubleheader. Edmonds won the nightcap, 6-1.

Everett (35-9 overall, 19-5 in league play) earns an automatic berth in the NWAC tournament, which is scheduled for May 23-27 at David Story Field in Longview.

In Sunday’s opener, Everett got all of its runs the fifth inning. Charlie Larson delivered a two-run double, and later scored on a balk to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.

Edmonds cut the difference to 3-2 in the eighth inning, getting RBI groundouts from David Gibbons and Jacob Butler, but reliever Gabe Smith shut down the Tritons the rest of the way.

Starting pitcher Zach Boswell earned the win for Everett, improving his season record to 9-1. He pitched 62⁄3 shuout innings. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked four. Smith collected his fifth save of the season with two innings of no-hit ball.

In the second game, Edmonds took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a run-scoring double by Dylan Cyr and a two-run single by Gage Gibson. That was all the runs Tritons starting pitcher Noah Fenz (5-1) needed. He pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits, striking out eight and walking only one.

Edmonds (32-11, 17-7 in league play) finished in a tie for second place with Bellevue in the North Region and will participate in a three-team playoff for a berth in the NWAC tournament.
