Community roundup: Mukilteo LL team captures state title

The Mukilteo Little League 10-year-old softball all-star team swept its way to a state championship earlier this month.
Mukilteo posted a 4-0 record in the state tournament held July 6-11 at Lynndale Park in Lynnwood.
Mukilteo won three straight games to claim the winner’s bracket. Then in the championship round, needing to win only once while Redmond needed to win twice, Mukilteo won 4-0 to take the crown.
The state tournament is the furthest 10-year-old softball teams can advance.
The Mukilteo roster included Nichelle Adams, Maddy Barrett, Kenzie Barrington, Hayden Downer, Pricilla Hansen, Lexi Johnson, Riley Karabach, Liyla Kirk, Marin Lugibihl, Teya Maldonado, Ashtyn McClure, Haylee Osborn, Mia Semith and Jayleen Syharath. The team was coached by Larry Downer, Sumeet Adams, Raul Maldonado and Jeff Hansen.
Steelheads claim WWPL title
The Snohomish County FC Steelheads elite men’s soccer team capped its first season in the Western Washington Premier League with a championship.
Rio Alcorta scored the only goal as the Steelheads defeated Crossfire Redmond 1-0 Thursday at Redmond High School to complete an undefeated season in which Snohomish County went 7-0-3 in league play (the Steelheads finished 8-1-5 overall). Thursday’s game proved to be the championship decider as Crossfire finished second at 7-1-2.
Alcorta finished the season with seven goals to lead the team. Devin Shull led the team in assists with four.
Edmonds soccer team third at nationals
The FC Edmonds Quiet Riot 05 girls soccer team took third place in the 14-under division of the National Premier Leagues Finals held July 11-15 in Commerce City, Colorado.
Edmonds, one of 16 teams from across the country in the bracket, went 2-0-1 in pool play to win its pool and advance to the semifinals. Edmonds fell to NY Surf 2-0 in the semis.
Terrace grad Kirk joins WWU hoops
Mountlake Terrace High School graduate Sean Kirk will join the Western Washington University men’s basketball team for the upcoming season, the school announced last week.
Kirk, a 6-foot-3 guard, played last season at Edmonds Community College, where he averaged 18.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He was named to the Northwest Athletic Conference All-North Region first team. Kirk, who graduated from Mountlake Terrace in 2017 and sat out a year before playing at Edmonds last season, will have sophomore eligibility at Western.
