PREP STARS OF THE NIGHT FOR THURSDAY, OCT. 17:
Carp Mukai, Kamiak boys cross country
Mukai, a junior, outlasted Jackson teammates Brenden Charbeneau and Jordan Hansen down the stretch of the Everett vs. Mukilteo Championships at McCollum Park. Mukai completed the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 41.1 seconds, just beating out Charbeneau (16:42.3) and Hansen (16:42.8). Jackson topped the team standings, with Mukai and the Knights in second place.
Summer Dean, Everett girls swimming & diving
Dean won the 50 freestyle and swam on the Seagulls’ winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays in a narrow 92-90 win over Monroe in a Wesco 3A North meet at Forest Park Pool. Those three events were the only ones Everett won in the victory over the Bearcats.
Jason Khoury, Stanwood boys cross country
Khoury, a senior, finished second at the nine-team Lake Lap Invitational at Lake Padden Golf Course in Bellingham. Khoury finished the 2.6-mile course in 14 minutes, 31.3 seconds, well behind first-place Nico Johnson of Mount Baker (14:09.7) but good enough to lift the Spartans to first place in the boys team standings. Stanwood had three top 10 finishers in Khoury, Wouter Van Veen (sixth, 14:59.1) and Owen Palmer (seventh, 14:59.5).
Kyra Hicks, Edmonds-Woodway girls soccer
Hicks, a senior forward, scored in the 75th minute of a Wesco 3A/2A showdown, lifting the Warriors to a 1-0 win over Shorecrest at Shoreline Stadium. The win put Edmonds-Woodway into a three-way tie atop the league with Archbishop Murphy and Snohomish. All three teams are 9-1-1 in league play.
Michelle Fast, Lake Stevens volleyball
Fast, a junior setter, recorded 38 assists, three kills and two service aces in a Wesco 4A sweep of Kamiak.
Ellina Powell, Jackson volleyball
Powell, a sophomore setter, dished out 41 assists and added six service aces in the Timberwolves’ wild five-set Wesco 4A win over Glacier Peak.
