PREP STARS OF THE NIGHT FOR TUESDAY, OCT. 22:
Kyle Nget and Ethan Stutzman, Glacier Peak boys tennis
Nget and Stutzman, both seniors, rebounded from a first-set tiebreaker loss in their 4A District 1 doubles quarterfinal match with Luke Stevens and Gavin Nelson of Lake Stevens, and won the second and third sets 6-1, 6-3, respectively, to reach Wednesday’s semifinal round.
Aaron Robertson and Grant Mueller, Everett boys tennis
Robertson, a senior, and Mueller, a sophomore, upset second-seeded Colin MacDonald and Cade Frediani of Snohomish in the quarterfinal round of the Wesco 3A North doubles tournament and advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal. Mueller and Robertson, seeded seventh, shrugged off a 6-4 first-set loss to win 6-1, 6-3 in the second and third sets, respectively.
Mei-Wei Corcoran-Sipe, Shorecrest girls soccer
Corcoran-Sipe, a junior midfielder, scored off an assist from Rhorrie Henning with two minutes remaining in regulation to give the Scots a pivotal Wesco 3A/2A road win over Archbishop Murphy. The win improved the Scots’ record to 8-3-1 in league play, and dropped Archbishop Murphy to 9-2-1 in Wesco 3A/2A.
Ellina Powell, Jackson volleyball
Powell, a sophomore setter, recorded 12 service aces in the Timberwolves’ five-set Wesco 4A win at Mount Vernon. Timberwolves’ coach Mindy Staudinger could not confirm that the 12 aces were a school record, but said it’s the most anyone has had in her 16 years leading the program.
MacKenzie Whyte, Snohomish volleyball
Whyte, a junior outside hitter/middle blocker, recorded 14 kills, 25 digs and two service aces as the Panthers handed Oak Harbor its first loss of the season in a 3-1 Wesco 3A/2A victory for Snohomish.
