PREP STARS OF THE NIGHT FOR WEDNESDAY, OCT. 23:
Brady Thomas, Jackson boys tennis
Thomas, a junior and 2018’s 4A boys singles runner-up, earned the right to return to state this spring by winning a pair of three-set matches in the 4A District 1 Tournament at Glacier Peak High School. Thomas beat Kamiak’s Joshua Lee 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals to set up a title match with Glacier Peak’s Dario Ristovski, who beat Thomas on Sept. 25. Thomas returned the favor in the postseason, beating Ristovski 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win the district championship.
Tyler Cochran and Ethan Hoglund, Lake Stevens boys tennis
Cochran, a senior, and Hoglund, a junior, outlasted Glacier Peak tandem Kyle Nget-Ethan Stutzman in a wild three-setter to claim the 4A District 1 boys doubles championship and a berth in May’s state tournament. After winning the first set 6-4, Cochran and Hoglund lost the second set 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreaker). The third set also went to a tiebreaker, with the Vikings’ duo winning 7-6 (7-3) to clinch a spot at state.
Aaron Robertson and Grant Mueller, Everett boys tennis
Robertson, a senior, and Mueller, a sophomore, continued their Cinderella postseason run, reaching the Wesco 3A North Tournament final after beating sixth-seeded Morgan Zill and Cody Vail of Stanwood 6-2, 7-6 (6) in the semifinals at Snohomish High School. Robertson and Mueller, seeded seventh, lost to Oak Harbor’s Micah Franklin and Nick Krantz in straight sets in the final, but will advance to next week’s 3A District 1 Tournament.
Jayden Angell, Lynnwood volleyball
Angell, a senior outside hitter, recorded 18 kills, 10 digs and two service aces in the Royals’ 3-1 win over Cedarcrest in a Wesco 3A/2A match.
Domonique Gadbois and Bailey Carter, Granite Falls girls soccer
Gadbois and Carter, both seniors, each recorded hat tricks in the Tigers’ 6-1 win over Coupeville in a North Sound Conference match. The pair have combined for 24 of Granite Falls’ 40 goals this season. Gadbois has 18 tallies and Carter has six.
