More people announce intent to run for Everett City Council

EVERETT — Months from the official candidate filing period, several people have announced their intent, or filed campaign finance forms, to seek election to the Everett City Council this year.

Newly created districts could pit incumbent council members against one another, which looks likely in District 1, for which Scott Murphy and Paul Roberts have filed with the Public Disclosure Commission.

At this early stage, the only other contested position is District 3, which covers the Boulevard Bluffs, Evergreen, Harborview-Seahurst-Glenhaven and View Ridge-Madison neighborhoods, as well as a small part of the South Forest Park area. Craig Ollis, a business manager, and Don Schwab, a retired firefighter and union leader, filed for that office. Schwab works for Snohomish County Treasurer Brian Sullivan, a longtime elected leader.

Paula Rhyne announced shortly after districts were formalized that she would seek election in District 2.

City Councilmember Liz Vogeli so far is unchallenged for the District 4 position, and the same goes for Councilman Scott Bader in District 5.
