Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Month for May/June

Below are the candidates for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Month for May/June. They were the winners of the six athlete-of-the-week polls during the final two months of the high school sports seasons. The balloting for the athlete of the month closes at midnight Sunday.
Brayden Bowers | Lake Stevens | Boys track and field
Bowers, a senior, broke his own school record in the pole vault in a meet against Arlington on May 6. His school-best vault of 15 feet, 4 inches also led all Class 4A competitors in the state, according to Athletic.net. He won the voting for May 3-9 by claiming 719 of 2,313 (31.1%) votes.
Garrett Chesley | Lake Stevens | Boys swim & dive
Chesley, a sophomore, swam the 100-meter butterfly in 58.53 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 57.03 seconds to earn a pair of individual victories in a three-team meet against Marysville Getchell and Marysville Pilchuck on May 28. He was also a member of the Vikings’ victorious 4×200 medley and 4×400 freestyle relay teams. Chesley won The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for May 24-30 by claiming 511 of 1,961 (26.1%) votes.
Adonai Daniel | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys basketball
Daniel, a junior, scored a game-high 29 points in the Warriors’ 69-56 victory over Cascade on June 2. He also led Edmonds-Woodway with 18 points in a 57-41 win over rival Meadowdale on June 5. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for May 31-June 6 by claiming 238 of 1,127 (21.1%) votes.
Giselle Dogan | Jackson | Girls basketball
Dogan, a freshman, led the Timberwolves with 19 points in a 51-42 win over Monroe on June 9. She scored a team-best seven points in the fourth quarter as Jackson outscored the Bearcats 23-13 in the final period to secure the victory. She won The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for June 7-13 by claiming 536 of 1,704 (31.5%) votes.
Emma Floyd | Stanwood | Girls basketball
Floyd, a junior, tied a program record by hitting six 3-pointers in the Spartans’ 74-17 win over Marysville Pilchuck on May 12. She finished the game with 22 points. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for May 10-16 by claiming 714 of 2,463 (29%) votes.
Fatoumata Jaiteh | Meadowdale | Girls basketball
Jaiteh, a senior, scored a game-high 23 points in Meadowdale’s 61-56 overtime loss to Cedarcrest on May 18. She also scored a game-high 19 points as the Mavericks beat Kamiak 60-34 on May 20. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for May 17-23 by claiming 419 of 1,602 (26.2%) votes.
Note: The final athlete of the month poll includes winners from May and June due to the majority of local schools wrapping up their seasons in the first two weeks of June.
