Herald’s new food writer a welcome addition

I found the Herald’s Taylor Goebel’s first stories to be not only well written but they showed a deep appreciation for food (“New on the menu: More stories about food in Snohomish County,” The Herald, Feb. 1).

From a very young age, growing up mostly on my own, I’ve found cooking and baking to be an endless oasis of creativity, pleasure and companionship. And it seems that Taylor has a great grasp of the meaning and even spirituality of food and its preparation.

The Herald would be unreadable if it only reported the racism in our outer exurbs, the dysfunction of city councils in Lake Stevens and Snohomish, the pandemic and the psychic epidemic, and the usual worldwide panoply of man’s eternal inhumanity to himself and nature.

Sid Schwab is brilliant. Andrea Brown is a breath of fresh air often. I’ve never been a big fan of Jerry Confield, but the editorial staff in general never seems to say much of anything I have strong feelings against. But after all the machinations of human nature and all the leading with what’s bleeding, I feel that Goebel will be another dose of balance and another reason to keep supporting The Herald, especially given the necessity of local journalism to keep down corruption in local governments.
