County should join in ban of local income tax

After reading that 21 local governments in the state have acted to ban a local income tax, I wrote to all the Snohomish County Council members to resolve to join them to adopt a local income tax ban.

I heard from Council Members Sam Low and Nate Nehring within a day supportive of the proposal.

By Feb. 15, it was on the council’s agenda. I am grateful they heard me and carried it forward. Especially on the heels of the 3-2 passage of the sales tax increase.

Unheard of to see two split vote resolutions on the same day with one passing and one failing. Council Members Jared Mead, Steph Wright and Chair Dunn aren’t practicing democracy or following their oaths of office to the Constitution.

Te Washington state Supreme Court has on several occasions declared both individual and corporate income to constitute a class of property so as to be subject to this constitutional requirement of uniformity. Because of this requirement, the court struck down as unconstitutional the income tax laws which were involved.
