The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 21-27. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Vivienne Berrett | Stanwood | Girls Basketball

Berrett, a junior, averaged 23.5 points on 73% shooting and added eight rebounds per contest over two games while helping Stanwood clinch a state berth and advance to the Class 3A District 1 title game. Her performance included a 27-point outing in a 54-46 win over Snohomish in the district semifinals on Feb. 15. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Feb. 14-20 by claiming 572 (54.4%) of 1,051 votes.

This week’s nominees

Zia Fackenthal | Grace Academy | Girls Basketball

Fackenthal, a sophomore, scored 12 of her team-high 21 points in the second quarter of the Eagles’ 57-48 loss to Cusick in a Class 1B state regional elimination game Feb. 25 at Everett Community College.

Zaveon Jones | Mountlake Terrace | Boys Basketball

Jones, a sophomore, hit a game-tying layup at the fourth-quarter buzzer and posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds as Mountlake Terrace rallied for a 67-65 overtime victory over Kelso in a Class 3A state regional elimination game Feb. 26 at Jackson High School.

Andrew Molloy | Lakewood | Boys Basketball

Molloy, a senior, scored 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in the Cougars’ 61-53 win over Sammamish in a Class 2A state regional elimination game Feb. 26 at Everett Community College. Molloy record 10 of his rebounds on offense and broke Lakewood’s single-season offensive rebound record in the process.

Jenna Villa | Arlington | Girls Basketball

Villa, a junior, needed less than three quarters to pour in a game-high 27 points as the Eagles routed Kelso 76-45 in a Class 3A state regional game Feb. 25 at Everett Community College. The victory gave Arlington a bye into the state quarterfinals.
