EVERETT — Bright lights and loud booms are again set for Everett’s annual Independence Day fireworks show.

The Everett City Council approved Mayor Cassie Franklin’s signature for a contract with Western Display Fireworks. It includes the barge that sets up off of Jetty Island and a tug boat to get it there, as well as computer choreography, firing equipment, insurance, mortars, permits and supplies.

Everett’s set to pay $75,000.

Staff and city leaders consider the cost worthwhile because lighting fireworks in city limits is illegal.

The deal includes a window to reschedule the show through Jan. 2 if it can’t be held July 4.

The city did not host a fireworks show in 2020, due to pandemic budget woes, but brought back the celebration in 2021.
