Glad to see a moderate Republican in House race

I for one was very glad to see Sam Low, a moderate, running against Robert Sutherland for the state legislative race in the 39th District (“Republicans choose sides with dollars in Low-Sutherland House race,” The Herald, April 18). Sutherland seems to me just another unhinged right wing politician. We have unhinged politicians on both the right and left around here.

As a long-time union ironworker and a supporter of the right to self- defence I have been seeing fewer and fewer people I was comfortable voting for. The last time I remember any politician who was both a union and gun rights supporter was Jack Metcalf; that was quite a few years ago. In my opinion we need a third political party that is more moderate now more than ever. Politicians like Sutherland go on about what great supporters they are for the Constitution but they stay real quiet when it comes to things like church and state.
