Can county use federal funds as child tax credit replacement?

Thanks for the details on being a part of the decision process for how Snohomish County spends its American Rescue Plan dollars. (“Snohomish County seeks input on spending American Rescue Plan dollars,” The Herald, May 17)

A reminder: This is where the original monies came from to expand the Child Tax Credit that lifted 4 million children out of poverty. Sadly, that tax credit has not yet been extended, though Reps. Suzan DelBene and Rick Larsen along with both of the state’s senators have been and continue to push for its passage. With 16 percent of the children in our county living in poverty (Snohomish County figures), this is an important issue. Could the county provide a rebate to lift these children out of poverty? Definitely possible, especially if we ask for it at the upcoming meetings. And let’s thank our members of Congress for their work on this issue, encouraging them to keep up their work until this ladder out of poverty is renewed.
