This week’s nominees
Snohomish vs. Glacier Peak at Veterans Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m.
Town bragging rights are on the line as Snohomish and Glacier Peak square off in the 11th installment of the Dick Armstrong Cup. GP has dominated this rivalry with victories in all 10 of the previous matchups, including eight wins by 10 points or more. The Grizzlies are coming off their first state playoff appearance in Class 4A and are a favorite to make it back to the state playoffs. The Panthers, who have won at least a share of the past three Wesco 3A South titles, are once again a contender in their league.
Stanwood at Lakewood, 7 p.m.
Stanwood looks to build on its breakout state playoff run when it travels to take on Lakewood for a non-league game. The Spartans enter the season as one of the favorites to compete for a Wesco 3A North title after ending a 25-year state playoff drought. The Cougars, who play in the competitive Northwest 2A Conference, are coming off a 5-4 campaign.
Arlington vs. Kamiak at Goddard Stadium, 7 p.m.
A new-look Arlington squad faces state hopeful Kamiak in a non-league matchup. The Eagles earned a state playoff berth in 2021 but replace nine starters on offense and eight on defense. The Knights are coming off their first Week 10 playoff appearance since 2014.
Edmonds-Woodway at Marysville Pilchuck, 7 p.m.
A pair of co-league champions look to build momentum when they square off in this non-league matchup of teams tasked with replacing plenty of firepower from last season. Edmonds-Woodway, which finished in a three-way tie for first in Wesco 3A South, is breaking in nine new starters on each side of the ball. This will be the first game for Marysville Pilchuck under new coach Dalton Schwetz. The Tomahawks, who finished in a three-way tie for first in Wesco 3A North, have 10 new starters on offense and eight on defense.
